Urologist

Dr Tim Nathan is an experienced and accomplished Urological Surgeon who has been working on the Sunshine Coast since 2006. He was Director of Urology at Nambour General Hospital for many years, where he established a high quality, high volume, tertiary level urology service, which meant that patients and their families no longer needed to travel to Brisbane for major urological surgery. Tim is a dedicated teacher and mentor, and has inspired many junior doctors to successfully pursue a career in urological surgery.

After graduating from the University of Edinburgh Medical School, Tim undertook specialist training in all aspects of adult urology at London teaching hospitals including the world-renowned St Peter's Hospital (The Institute of Urology).

Towards the end of his specialist training Tim completed a 1-year fellowship position in Laparoscopic (key-hole) Urological Surgery and Kidney Transplantation at the Princess Alexander Hospital, Brisbane, under Professor David Nicol. After being awarded Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in both Australia and the United Kingdom, he undertook additional training in Laparoscopic and Robotic Radical Prostatectomy with Professor Jens-Uwe Stolzenburg, at the University Hospital Leipzig, Germany.

Tim’s main area of clinical expertise is the diagnosis and management of urological cancers. Many studies have shown that surgeon experience is critical to good outcomes. Tim has performed approaching 1000 operations to remove cancers of the prostate, kidney, and bladder. Since 2014, Tim has been performing Da Vinci Robotic Surgery to remove cancers of the prostate and kidney at the Wesley Hospital. With the availability of the latest Da Vinci Xi Surgical Robot at the Buderim Private Hospital, Tim is pleased to offer this advanced surgical procedure locally.

His other areas of interest include general urology, laser surgery for prostate and stone disease, vasectomy reversal, and insertion of prosthetics to treat incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Tim is also credentialed to perform the Urolift procedure to treat prostate symptoms.

He has published scientific papers on photodynamic therapy for prostate cancer and laser prostatectomy for benign prostate enlargement.

Tim aims to combine his patience, compassion and extensive experience in urological surgery with the latest state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques to provide high quality care.
